We would like to invite all students to guest lectures by Dr. Laure Neumayer from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. Two lectures on "France in EU Institutions" will take place on 21 and 22 April 2016 in Rytirska 31, room R201 (2nd floor). More information in SIS.

Diplomatic Academy of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs organizes a preparatory seminar for the EU institutions' EPSO tests. The seminar will take place on 16 February 2016 at 8:30 at the Great Hall of the Czernin Palace, the participation is free of charge. Register via e-mail on da@mzv.cz until 12 February 2016. Please note that the seminar will be held in Czech.

On Monday 14 December, the Department invites you to no fewer than 3 events. First, between 15:30 and 17:00 in Small conference room at the Carolinum, dr. Filip Vostál from CEFRES and the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Rep. will present his research on "'Slowing Down' Modernity: Risky, Futile or Progressive?" as part of the IMS-CEFRES Research Seminars series.


Then, at 17:00 in Emperor´s Hall (Císařský sál) of the Carolinum, Prof. Jacques Rupnik will be awarded the title of Visiting Professor of the Charles University. After the official part of the ceremony, Prof. Rupnik will give a lecture.


We will then conclude the day at the Christmas Party of the Department, which will begin at 19:00 in Týnská literární kavárna (Týnská street no.6). All students and friends of the Department are welcome!

We would like to kindly invite you to a public debate on the aftermath of the recent Paris terrorist attacks. The discussion will take place on 20 November 2015 at 2:00 PM at the European House, Jungmannova 24 Prague.


Confirmed speakers are Jean-Pierre Asvazadourian, Ambassador of France to the Czech Republic, Pavel Fischer, former Ambassador of the Czech Republic to France, Martin Michelot, Head of Research at the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy and Karel Schwarzenberg, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies. The discussion will be moderated by Vladimír Bartovic, Director of the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy

You have the opportunity to join the internships with EULEX in Pristina, Kosovo: The European External Action Service offers a number of places for trainees to participate on the EULEX Kosovo mission. Open positions can be found here and the required conditions . In order to apply you need to send the filled out application at .cz no later than Wednesday, November 11, 2015 until 16:00 pm. Selected applications will be forwarded to the EEAS for further selection. Each participant will receive a monthly scholarship of $ 500 USD. Tickets, the cost of living, local transportation, meals and other costs associated with the stay in Pristina will be the responsibility of the applicant himself.

Elections to the Academic Senate of the Charles University and to the Faculty of Social Science of the Charles University will be held on Nov. 25 to 27, 2015. Elections will take place electronically and will start on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 10:00 am and end on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 3:00 pm.

The deadline for submission of candidates is November 13, 2015 at 12:00pm.

The Department of German and Austrian Studies is organizing 'Internationaler Workshop der zum 25th Jahrestage Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands " in the occasion of anniversary of the unification of Germany on 29.10. - 31.10. 2015.


The workshop will be initiated with a lecture by famous German historian Ulrich Herbert (Author of the latest synthesis of German history "Geschichte Deutschlands im 20. Jahrhundert") on the topic "Die Muhen der Ebene. Deutschland nach der Wiedervereinigung" on Thursday, 29.10. 2015 at 5:00 pm at the Goethe-Institut. The workshop will then take place on Friday and Saturday in Hollar - room no H212. The program is available on the department web page

Department of West European Studies invites to the lecture "Europe's Future - in Light of Its Past" by Mr. Karel Kovanda, which will take place on Tuesday, 29 October 2013, at 9:30 in Jinonice, room 3015. Karel Kovanda served as Deputy Director General at DG RELEX responsible for multilateral relations and CFSP and prior to that as the Czech MFA's political director, ambassador to the UN, ambassador to NATO, as well as the deputy minister for foreign affairs. The lecture will be delivered in English.

A new specialisation bearing the name of Václav Havel will be launched on 26 September 2013. The programme is run by Charles University in cooperation with Oxford University, Leiden University and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne within the framework of Europaeum.
