Master Programme European Studies

The European Studies Programme is a two-year Master’s level study programme taught in English at the Department of West European Studies by leading professors who have been awarded Jean Monnet Chair titles by the European Commission.

The programme provides students with a sophisticated understanding of European history and politics, the European integration process, and other EU related issues from a legal, political and economic perspective. It deals not only with individual European countries, but also offers the oportunity to study the European integration process in all its complexity and variety with a strong focus on its current development. Special attention is paid to the role and position of Central and Eastern European countries in the EU and Europe as a whole. The programme is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach that combines Social Sciences (Political Science, Economics, Sociology) and History.

The programme is designed especially for students who plan to enter positions in civil service and diplomacy, EU institutions as well as in other international organizations, private companies, the media or non-governmental sector. Upon successful completion of the programme, students are awarded a Master’s degree from Charles University and provided with a diploma supplement describing the overall study programme.

The European Studies Programme is intended for full-time students. All applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related programme of study and must provide evidence of their ability to study in English.

Further details about the programme, admission requirements and application details and forms are available on the PRAREAS European Studies website.
